Description

Fruit veges can be beautiful as well as tasty! Discover the creative fun you can have designing your own ornamental edible garden. Diana Anthony is well-known to many NZ gardeners, through her best-selling books, The Small Edible Garden and The Edible Garden Planner. Here she describes the design and planting of the ornamental edible garden, where aesthetics and practicality combine. There is loads of information on design, construction of paths and edges, building raised beds, hedges and enclosures, frames for climbing plants, espalier and pruning of fruit trees, as well as a chapter on 'no soil' or tiny space vege gardens with details of veges and dwarf fruit cultivars especially suitable for containers and smaller plantings. It includes diagrams and ground plans for ornamental edible gardens ; over 100 inspirational photographs from garden photographer Gil Hanly, showing mature ornamental vege gardens and those still in development; includes essential sustainable garden practices such as crop rotation, green manures, composting, organic management and companion planting; advice on style and design and how to achieve the look you want - whether small and stylish or large and formal; tables at the back detail heights, leaf and flower colour and seasons of veges, fruits and herbs to make planning the look of your edible garden easy!

Author description

Diana Anthony has been writing gardening books and articles for over 20 years, and most recently her focus has been on the very popular food gardening trend. An early convert to organic principles, sustainability has always been a hallmark of her gardening style - one of her earlier international books was called Creative, Sustainable Gardening, and this has added to the popularity of her books. More recently The Small Edible Garden (4th reprint) and The Edible Garden Planner (2nd reprint), written especially for new gardeners and those with small areas, have been hugely successful in NZ.
